Gill Sotu has helped open up my mind to a whole new world of expression. He has been a writing mentor while providing the gravitational force that has directed and united so many aspiring playwrights. He has given me the confidence and skills to organize and present my thoughts and emotions onto a coherent and accessible script. Many thanks for your tremendous gifts, Gill!!

Gill is an inspiring artistic leader. He is experienced, knowledgeable and is able to clearly explain how to convey storytelling in a meaningful manner to others. You can tell, by how he talks, that he truly loves art. Thanks to his and Soroya’s beginners’ playwriting workshop, I now understand concepts such as the set up, build and pay off within creating a play. Not only was I able to achieve this in the final play, but I look for it within most movies/shows that I watch. I felt proud to see my art come to life through the medium of such amazingly talented actors…expressing outwardly (in front of lots of people!) what you’ve worked on for weeks is no easy feat but through Gill’s guidance I felt brave enough to do so. Working with Gill Sotu in the Veterans’ Playwriting Workshop was an enlightening experience. Gill listened intently to our ideas and helped us to flesh them out with structured development. His ways of sharing ideas, feedback, and suggestions were always delivered with professionalism. From the very beginning of the class until the end, I always felt that he had my best interests at heart for me to do well. His leadership and the implementation of his skills enhanced my abilities and challenged me to write beyond where I was currently writing. When the actors read our class final plays, I was excited and proud of my work. It was such an honor to be in that setting, and he helped me to get there. I am thankful for having had the opportunity to learn from Gill. His investment in me, his gentle ways of sharing with the class and his creative imagination made the difference in how we left the class compared to how we came in at the beginning of the workshop.  He's a great guy to work with and learn from.

Gill has been an incredibly helpful and insightful teacher. He takes the time to listen and understand each student’s writing, which makes his feedback specific and meaningful. After class, I take away new knowledge that I can apply to my current play—whether it's making the characters more relatable, minimizing stage directions, or allowing the characters to drive the story themselves. Hearing our scripts read aloud by actors at the end of class brings the work to life and has been invaluable for my growth as a writer. Gill’s guidance has truly strengthened my writing and boosted my confidence as a playwright.
